What is any ability do students have within the MLS to hold real time chats with the group?

sharon,

It all depends on the tools being used by your institution. Some would require you to be connected and for you to save off the session at the end. Other server-based solutions may allow you to archive ALL session that take place for that online classroom.

I am not an expert in the field of computers, however, I had been told that when students use chat there is not a record of all of the things that were said. Is this correct? I whould want to be able to go in and see the messages that the group sent during their discussion board. I would not want to have to be online the whole time a group was holding a discussion board, I like to pop on see how the group is working and then go back later and see what they accomplished.

I am not sure I understand the question because of the way it is written, but I'm guessing the question is whether any student has the ability to hold chats. If that is the question, I think most all students have the raw ability to hold a chat. For some, shyness, poor self-esteem/self-evaluation/self-confidence, snd fear of failure may interfere to the point that the student would be unable to actually take the big step and start the CHat.
