Dynamic Course Elements
What methods have you developed to manage dynamic course elements?
BRIGITTE ,
Good point! The dynamics you describe definitely enhance the learning environment. Thanks!
Hello Dr Crews
Implementing dynamic course elements is important to reach multiple learners. At my organizational systems, we engage in a variety of dynamic teaching methods through state of the art technology, chat rooms, PowerPoint Presentations, videos, Learning Resources to supplement and enhance the course content. I think the dynamics come into fruition as these elements are drawn upon and utilized by the instructor to it fullest potential through discussions and demonstrated through assignments.

Sarah,
Additional resources are helpful to get students to think beyond the classroom. Nice job.
Dr. Christopher,
Sounds like you have a system that seems to be working. Can you edit the syllabus or project to meet the needs of your students?
So what I add in my course is additional websites links that relate to the weeks subject to further demonstrate the course content. Very effective and my students like to read the articles in the link
Since we use a master course for each course taught at our school it is the responsibility of the Curriculum Chair to maintain and validate dynamic content on a regular basis. Then it is the responsibility of each instructor receiving a copy of that master course to validate all dynamic content prior to making it available for students. If they find a link is broken or no longer makes sense for the course they must find a new link and submit that information back to the Curriculum Chair so that the master course can be updated. We maintain course revision history on our servers and via a change management system.

Amos,
What kind of tools do you use for reinforcement? I think it depends on your subject. What do you teach?
I also have used online tools for reinforcement and find the easier the tool can be accessed by the student, the more likely that the will gain benefit from it. Has that been anyone's experience?
Victor,
Good point. Anything we can do to give a voice and face to the classroom, the better. Nice job.
I want to have a separate lecture, short, 5 minutes on feedback from the previous week. Kind of like an addendum, it would summarize what students well and what students missed in answering the assignment. I think it would give a voice and face to the classroom and if students needed that general feedback about what the assignment was asking, I think it would add to the written comments that I put when grading their paper.
Monica,
I'm trying to think about what in my life is linear besides my age. ;-) We have to keep "working the teaching/learning system" in any fashion we can - linear or not. Thanks!
I agree. The steps we take are not always linear and usually represent a more back-and-forth effort. In some cases, it makes more sense to skip a step and come back to it. The important thing is
that the steps are considered within the specific context of your program.
Virginia,
The syllabus itself can be considered a dynamic course element. Thanks for your input.
I use a combination of bookmarks, LMS file and image archives and backup on my hardrive /pen drive.
Any other ideas from classmates?
Thanks,
Virginia
Daron,
For sure. And, it's not just healthcare, but many other topics/subjects that continually change. Therefore, life is ever-changing and students need to realize they need to become lifelong learners. Thanks!
I find as an online teacher for healthcare it is important to accept that change is evident. Working in the pharmacy department we realize that the field is always moving and growing. I like to update and add or take away those that have become obsolete. The methods for which we work changes as well so I like to add information in our discussions when I do my postings.
Michelle,
Keeping resources on hand that you can "pull from" is essential. It's good to continually build that "bank" and also keep it relevant and current. Nice job.
What methods have you developed to manage dynamic course elements?
I always keep a “bank†of relevant websites, videos, and articles for every class I teach. The banks I create are living documents since I am constantly updating them. A little time spent creating these banks up front drastically saves time throughout the course itself. Before I include a dynamic element from my “bank†I check the link to make sure nothing has changed or the content has been removed.
I also create a lot of the dynamic course elements myself. I utilize screencast tools, animation programs, and video editors. The information within these elements does not change unless the course itself changes.
Eleanor,
Excellent. When we know where students are going to have difficulties, these short videos help students tremendously.
Thanks
