Being an IT instructor I'm constantly having to work out technical issues with the resources and adjust the lesson to the student's level of understanding. I sometimes work through the student's assignments and on the sections that were difficult to understand or had a very specific procedure to follow, I created step by step instructions in a word document and posted it.

Shannon,

We all provide technology support at some time. It's good we can do that.

Some technology support that I provide for my students include helpful test sites for practice test as well as reference sites for discussion forums.

Amos,

Oh my gosh - I would go crazy without it. I even tell my students (225 of them) NOT to email me, but to use the FAQ discussion board for all questions related to the course. It's wonderful. I or other students answer questions within 24 hours.

Hello. I have often considered Items that I can create or use for the management of my class room. I am looking at the creation of an FAQ to allow students easy access to information without teacher instructions. Has anyone found this to be useful?

Erin,

I love to use a FAQ discussion board. I have students post all questions pertaining to the course in this section and they will be answered within 24 hours. This alleviates my email overload as well. Thanks again.

I have created a "Frequently Asked Questions" section for my classroom. My students must submit mathematical work using Microsoft Word, so I have included links to sites that assist students in learning how to use MS Equation Editor. I also keep a running list of instructions in my email drafts for questions that I get quite a bit. This allows me to save time and reply to each email with detailed instructions for a student who is having trouble accessing a part of the online classroom.

Sherrilyn,

Excellent. Sounds like your institution provides support to your students up front. This is a good thing. My students could really use the APA format one.

My school provides very good powerpoint documents showing the student how to move around with the application. I have created a document use discusses how to create an essay. It does not show APA format if does however show basic essay writing format. (ie introduction 3-4 sentences, body of the document 3-4 sentences, and a closing paragraph 3-4 sentences). Also, a list of tips for success has been created for students to help guild them through the course.

Sherrilyn

Lisa,

I do the same thing. I love to use Jing to create a library of videos that students can access when they need more clarification on any topic. Thanks for adding to the conversation.

I create handouts available to support student who enjoy following direction step by step. Concurrently, I create videos that SHOW them so I can help engage diverse learning styles

Virginia,

Excellent. Anything you can do within the LMS is helpful. That way the students only have to go to one place to get the resources and links. Nice job.

I like to download files and keep them in the LMS. I also like the HTML functions so that I may attach UTube, links and images.

Virginia

Ty,

Making the expectations clear to the students and having a consistent tone throughout the course, helps students understand how to achieve the learning objectives. Thanks for your input.

Both. You have to maintain a consistent tone throughout. This means rubrics and this also means explaining expectations.

Ty,

And, do you do this through rubrics or just explaining the expectations?

Thanks for adding to the conversation.

What I have found beneficial is to clearly show the expectations of an assignment as well as examples. I am however a design instructor. This process may be more visual than most other classes.

Jennifer,

Definitely. We have to keep giving them helpful hints/resources on APA style. I find this one is helpful: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/section/2/10/

Hope you find it helpful as well.

Lisa,

Any references like this can be supportive of the students' learning. Nice job.
