I work from home, and I have no young children, so I pretty much schedule my time into 4 hour blocks. This gives me room to take a break and to handle most personal issues when I need to. The down side of this is that I tend to work too long and too often and will side step the breaks I have allotted for myself.
I am still figuring this one out....that is why I took this course!
One of the strategies I use when trying to balance work and life while teaching online is that when I know I need to sit and work, we have family "work" time. My husband runs his own business and spends lots of time on the computer and I have school-age children, so we have times that we designate as "homework" time.
My husband and I will have our children sit and do their homework (or we'll give them an assignment to do outside of school-assigned homework) and we'll sit and work on our computers. This way, it's quiet and I can concentrate. Also, our children can see that Mom and Dad have their 'homework' also. This will only last a while because of children's attention span, so I make sure to take breaks and spend time with them during my breaks from my work.
I have a schedule that I manage my time. I am not alsways able to participate in everything so I pick and choose.
