Planning and time management are key. It is easy to get overloaded and feel like you are always "on" Setting aside time to plan, time to respond to students, adn time to build assessments is vital or you get overloaded
Collecting data from your students can be done. Design questions that focus on predesign issues and this will help you create a e-class module that is not just read the text and answer the multiple guess questions.
This module is titled "Workload management strategy for online teaching". The first section dealt with the characteristics of a good online instructor. What I learned, and really no surprise, is the characteristics are basical that same as the characteristics of a classroom teacher. Throughout this course I am fancinated that while I'm learning about being an online instructor, the course makes me reflect on classroom instruction, therefore improving my classroom instruction. An unexpected benefit.
Procrastination is one of the bigggest problems with student/instuctor overload. Planning ahead of time is well worth the time and effort. There is nothing like an outdated syllabus uploaded to your LMS. I would just pass it off as saying that we are updated now I know, it should have been updated before the class began. Student overload for the inaccurate syllabus.
Anticipate problems and design the course to eliminate these obstacles. Create presentations, lectures in podcasts, and select video resources ahead of time to provide time to concentrate on teaching.
When teaching in an online environment, it is absolutely essential that the instructor—and by extension all aspects of the course—be carefully and completely organized
Effective time management prevents overload!
Planning ahead, managing administrative tasks, discipline, and keeping organized can help reduce the overworking for the teacher.
Creating a schedule is one of the best time management tools available. This schedule must be altered at times as you progress through courses.
I like the focus and the thought of setting priorities for work and family time. Need to have work time but be able to sperate too.
what's really important is l managing the workload of anline course is to assure an effective course.
Using a template for common communication is a good idea and something I plan to try.
Time management is important. Separating personal things from work things is also important. You don't have to be available 24/7 just because the classs is available during that time.
Athough time managment has become somewhat of a cliche in this modern world, it's more about blocking time, priortizing and goal setting. Having these things in mind will prevent burn out for botht he insturctors and the students.
Plan ahead. Know the road map and provide a clear map to your students to follow. Set up your time schedule and be efficient. Create a word doc with common answers to help you reply to students questions without type the same thing several times. The more organized you are before the class starts, the easier time managment will be teaching the course.
Just dumping material on students can easily overload students and faculty. Planning a controlled release of information in a thoughtful way can eliminate much (if not all) of the overload felt.
As we are now teaching online, the main thing is to have a plan in advance just as you would in the actual classroom. Always!
How important managing time is and being well organized. Anticipating what the students might ask or need ahead of time will minimize my admin workload.
Because students can work in the online platform at anytime an instructor can easier get pulled into being available 24-7. So plan a schedule and try to stick to it.
This section of our lesson was focused on manaement skills. Time, workload, communications, etc. are all taken into consideration when you are attepting to manage an online course. Be thorough with your expectations and guidelines from the begining of the course to avboid confusion later.
