Live binders
I teach math classes that involve many tutorial math videos. From showing how to solve equations to using excel the videos are a powerful way to reach students when you cannot be there yourself. However I find just hosting these on youtube means the students don't use them, they don't want to sort through dozens of videos. Instead I have been sorting them all using a live binder, this free Web site allows you to sort things into categories (for shorter classes I tend to do each week) and place just the videos there for that week, then they can easily access them. This gives me a great way to communicate all of these external resources to my students.
Patricia,
See if this link helps you: http://www.ehow.com/how_8588803_build-private-youtube-channel.html
There are steps to set up a private YouTube channel.
Can you provide some more info on how to set up a private you tube channel? Is there costs involved? How do you make it private, do you have to list the students (like a directory) or do you issue a passcode?
Donna,
And, you can make a YouTube channel just for your class so it's not totally public. That as worked for me. Thanks for your input.
I believe that YouTube is the wave of the future in the online delivery. I just attended a webinar on the use of YouTube and it was just incredible how this technology can change the way instructors can enhance communication with the students. Instructors can create an introduction to the course and present weekly lecture material. The demonstration was for use in the Moodle classroom so this will be a great tool to communicate with our students. It will be interesting to view the 'stats' as instructors can analyze the use by students. Instructors can also assess students feedback to monitor for future course enhancements. Donna
Leah,
Ah - Live binder is cool. Also, have you tried making your own channel in YouTube? Then you students don't have to search so much. You can categorize them there too.
