Technology for Communication

I tend to use the technology communication tools for smaller sized courses since I often only have a few students at a time. Technology tools for effective communication are essential. A study has demonstrated that virtual clinical simulation can improve communication skills in nursing students (Foronda, Gattamorta, Snowden, & Bauman, 2013)

Chris,

I love Adobe Connect. It really changed how I did my office hours and taught my class. We need to keep that communication flowing. Thanks for your input.

As a department chair for an online college, everything we use for communication is technology based. We teach classes in Adobe Connect, we call students on the phone for various reasons and we send text messages for quick responses. Online colleges cant survive without using technology for communication.

Dania,

I also enjoy using Adobe Connect. It gives us time to meet synchronously/live and the ability to record sessions for those who are not in attendance. Thanks!

I think adobe connect works well for my online classes of about 30 students. I don't know if I feel as comfortable with facebook, given that it could end up being shared.

Joe,

When you are talking about the "breeze platform" are you referring to Adobe Connect? It used to be called Breeze. I use it and just set up two different meeting links. I also have 3 monitors connected to my computer and have one meeting on one screen, another meeting link on the second screen and have my email open on the third screen to see if students are emailing for any reason. Hope this is helpful.

I am finding more and more ways to "exploit" the breeze platform that we use. I feel it has limitations on software uploading and it seems to be unreliable at times. But, the more I use it the more I am getting comfortable recreating the live class experience of smart board.

Also, does any have any suggestions on how to do two live chats at the same time to two different breeze chat rooms? That would help when teaching multiple sections of the same course.

thanks!
Joe

great point. Thanks!

Heidi,

Good point. We all use different communication tools for various reasons. We just have to make sure they meet our needs and the needs of the students. Thanks again.
