Uses of Technology in Classroom

For the past ten years I have acquired real hours of technology usage. I have taught several courses using technology. With the trainings at my school instructors become more aware of the technologies out there. The students are gurus in their own right, learning and mastering the technologies as they become available. The availability of technology to all of us at our finger tips has become a blessing in our day to day life.

Michael,

Isn't amazing what you have learned in just six short years? I have a friend that says using the LMS, Facebook and Twitter for communication just makes more work on us, as instructors, and not the students. So, he asks the students each semester to decide among themselves (I think he does an anonymous poll/survey) as to the ONE way communication will occur in the class. It may be email, the LMS, Facebook, etc., but they vote and that's it. Just the one way. They all buy into it and it makes it easier on everyone just having the one methods. He swears by it. Hope this is helpful. Thanks!

I have been teaching online now for 6 years. These past 6 years has taught me that I must continue to explore the use of new technologies. I have an online Facebook & Twitter account that I use to communicate with students. What I have found is that I must continually remind them that these accounts are to be used to communicate information related to the course I teach. However most students want to use them as an expansion of their social media sites and very little of what they post is related to the course.

I have tried to discourage this many times, but nothing seems to stop them from doing this.

Any ideas?

Respectfully,
Michael Derry

Emmanuel,

Any little blessing we can get from technology is awesome. It's good to try new things, but find those technologies that work best for students and instructors. Thanks!
