Cross-pollination of Knowledge from One Generation to Another
Teaching an online course could pose a serious challenge if students in the course are from different generation group; however, the learning process could be enhanced and students learning outcomes improved if the course can be designed in a way that encourage students from different generation to collaborate as often as possible. No one generation has monopoly to knowledge; each generation is capable of teaching and learning from other generations.
Robin,
Thanks for continuing the conversation. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
I totally agree to a certain extent however for example students in elementary schools with the new common core are learning an entirely new way to do multiplication. if students go into school using the technique mom or dad showed them at home it is now considered obsolete and incorrect. the student will get the problems wrong even if the answer is right because the work shown is not the new methods. This is a far smaller scale than a fast paced online class however just another way to show that generations are changing!
Augustine,
Collaboration can be very effective across generations and the learning can increase. Thanks for bringing that up.
