Social Networking and Employment
How can our students use social networking to make necessary contacts that will help them gain employment?
Students could "follow" firms that they are considering for internships or employment to get a better feel for the firm's staff, policies, and interests, and to have an advantage during an eventual interview with that firm.
Greg,
Great point. The hospitality industry has really embraced social media as a connector. Students must be aware of its use and participate.

Encouraging students to use Instagram/Facebook,etc. to post their work/portfolio pictures on. This shows others and potential employers out there the type of work they can create and the skills they possess.
For instance, in the Hospitality Field, numerous chef's and employers utilize social networking to promote their businesses, which may include information about the chef, the venue/location, menu and/or pictures of dishes they may offer. Why not like that page, friend the venue and/or chef, and by uploading your own work, you can network by showcasing your own work.
Austin,
That is the purpose of LinkedIn. It is extensively used in business and in other industries. Also, professional associations are using this type of connection to provide employment opportunities.
