I gained alot more respect from my employees through coaching them!

One of the biggest helps I have discovered, was having a team meeting at the beginning of each day. Pull every toegether, review what has been done, what needs to be done, and make sure everyone was on the same game plan. Then I offered to be 'tagged' in if a snag occured. I found that not only did this help their focus on the indivduals' work, but they were more 'goal' oreiented as opposed to 'paycheck' oriented.

In the past, I have gained respect through mutual respect for one another first. Build their confidence through praise and rewards.

How important is training to a successful organization? How long does it take to create that "better work environment"? 90 days of the employee's employment?
If it is successful why do several companies begin to downsize with the training team. Those individuals who are the ones training and coached employees properly from the beginning to their first 90 days? Thoughts?

Yes, the important thing here is to celebrate those little successes in an appropriate way. Acknowledge them & applaud them & then encourage & motivate toward the bigger goals & even greater successes.

Absolutely & when they know they have the confidence & support of their supervisor this is huge in employee engagement.

You build on the little successes they have and go back to the successes. When you get a buy into your imrovment plan for them they accept more freely and they respect you for your coaching.

I agree with this point. If employees are trained and coached properly from the start it makes fo a better work enviroment.

I like that book....good recommendation. I also recommend "The Dream Manager" by Matthew Kelly, it might help anyone help coach to goals and dreams.

I believe a key aspect to gaining an employee's trust is through how we train and coach.

Typically, the best way to train and develop any level performers is to teach them in a manner that is conducive to performance. Whenever possible I encourage one should adopt this basic approach, which will involve incorporating three easy steps into your training sessions.
To facilitate performance-based learning, you should:
1.Teach the individual what you want them to know through verbal and/or written instruction, and use of specific examples
2.Show the person how they should complete a task or change a behavior through demonstrations
3.Let the individual practice what they’ve learned – both on their own and with you observing them, and provide them with timely and specific feedback on how well they performed the task

Thank you for your honesty & transparency & you are definitely right that it is challenging to consistently provide coaching to others. One recommendation I make is to constantly improve your bank of "powerful questions." One book I recommend is "Leading with Questions" by Michael Marquardt. This is a great book to help in question asking.

I agree Erica A. To me a secret of effective coaching is the gaining of approval from another to do so which t me comes from trust. I am firm in my belief and my past experiences as a coach that if your are truly interested in their success verses being interested in you or how you would accomplish the task. I find it challenging at times to consistently provide coaching. I am always looking to see what I can do different to be able to become a better coach.

How did you go about doing this? What steps did you take to coach them & gain their respect?
