coaching is everything

hello,
as a former athlete, i have learned very quickly that coached do indeed make all the difference in the world. as a teacher, i have always viewed myself as a coach in many ways. as a coach, we have to lead, inspire, motivate, and finally and most importantly lead by example. the best teachers that i ever had were very much like coaches in many ways. the best coaches and the best teachers i ever had were great because the y always lead by example!

I think that very often the line blurs between being a coach and evaluator.

I totally agree! When one of my student's is struggling with a skill, I try to listen, give advice, feedback and follow up. I am delighted to know when my students have mastered a skill after I have coach them.

Anita,
and I think another key to good coaching is the support of individuals while they are working on these areas.

Coaching is a powerful tool because it encourages new behaviors. It encourages coachees to change and transform and helps coachees to stretch their skills. Good coaches also help coachees to brainstorm ways to overcome performance obstacles and help to take performance to the next level.

Rochele,

and when we are truly coaching, we are truly leading our students & helping them to push further.

Yes I am all for this concept we set the tone for our classroom and it can be a place of encouragement a placwe where our students leave each day feeling empowered we are the coach who can either shut them down or make them feel like they can win!

Lisa,
I have seen first-hand the value that coaching can provide & really can make a significant difference in the lives of others.

Coaching is such a poweful tool. As faculty/chairs/program directors we can certainly make a positive affect on students and employees each day through coaching. I believe this class has been a very valuable tool for me as I can use the skill sets/information both with my employees and my students.

Kellie,
yes, asking powerful questions is a great way to encourage our employees to think & develop.

I as well have been an athlete and a coach/teacher. I value the experiences I have as an athlete through the coaches I have had. I model my teaching methods and coaching methods through them as well. Coaching is such a vital part of any job, rather than always just being directed what to do. Asking questions, practicing situations, and hands on experience with positive corrective feedback makes for happier more effective employees.

tanner,
I agree with you that as teachers we really do need to view ourselves as the coaches/leaders in our classes. It is through this support that our students will be successful.
