Presentation Skills
Career education instructors need to take in to account the type and skill level of students. The vast majority of students attending career education institutions fall under the classification of nontraditional students and as such we need to tailor our presentation skills towards their learning abilities.
Most of these students have been out of the classroom for a large period of time which creates a difficulty as they may have loss a large percentage of their basic skills, namely, reading, math, language handling.
Our presentations need to be tailor in such a way as to enable us to reach all our students and allow them to attaint the program learning goals.
I agree that these instructors see a wide variety of students. Some just out of high school, some that haven't been in a classroom environment in twenty years. It is important that we tailor our presentations towards each student as much as possible.
Luis,
good question. I believe that faculty should & really must have that clear understanding in order to be truly effective in the classroom.

Dr. Meers,
Does faculty had a clear understanding of the underpinnings asociate with the learning needs of students or they seek themselves as been above the fray?
Luis,
I agree. We need to remember that we are not presenting at some academic conference, but helping real people acquire the information & skills they need for career success.
