Presentation

I felt that the course on presentation was very beneficial. I have presented in front of different audiences and learned new techniques for successfully presenting. Although there is more than one way to execute a presentation, the first thing to do is to understand fully what your trying to present to other and helping them understand why they are there to listen to you in the first place.

I too, felt this course was beneficial in that it gave me more insight as to how a good presentation comes about and is ultimately delivered. I will work more at keeping my audience more involved and interested.

Michael,
yes, audience analysis is key as well as the good presentational skills. Subject matter expertise is not a replacement for good speaking skills.

I was at a trade show this weekend and was able to sit in on a half dozen 45 min. presentations. Since I lecture as part of my job, and I was going through this training. I was more in tune to how the presenter was getting their points across. I was able to see six deferent styles. All had great knowledge about their products, but not all where cut out to be lecturers. I was able to see how being ready for the group that you will speak to, is a great asset.

As a part of my job duties, presenting is a weekly task. This is a total help to me as it'll create more pointers for me.

Carmella,
this is always disappointing when we are hoping to learn something & we don't. I use these situations to remind me to make sure my points & content are always clear & relevant.

I recently went to a conference and the key speaker is my prior employer. I was truly disappointed that he spoke for one hour and made no important points at all. He tried to talk about the changes in technology, but only spoke about how typewriters became computers and now we have cell phones. Then he stated how text messages are the new thing along with twitter. Absolutely, nothing new and absolutely boring. Had he spoke more about how technology is changing evidence in the courtrooms and gave examples of MDJ arraignments, testimony via video and so forth, we would have left feeling better about spending our money. Sadly, that did not happen and we left extremely disappointed.

dominique,
yes, clarity on the purpose of the message & presentation is key.
