Beneficial Questioning Techniques

Which of the questioning techniques presented in this module do you think will be of most benefit to you?

Reflecting.

The Clean Language Technique. A lot of my students are ESL and they don't always understand metaphors or colloquialisms, so to have them tell me in their own words and have me apply their words always helps them to understand.

Thanks, Julie! It's great to hear that you found the questioning techniques useful!

I use several techniques. I rephrase what the student is saying to be sure I understand what they are saying. I also use questions to show how the program will benefit them and their specific needs. There is always room to grow with questions. I loved the W's and h techniques. It emphasizes the importance of showing pros and cons.

The GROW technique is one I definitely want to use...I think this will empower the potential student to determine their path by clarifying what they share during the interview process.

Clean language questioning. I beleive this cuases the student to be frank and draws out the students real motivation for attending school. To often students parrot reasons rather than examine why they have chosen a particular school and/or program

Exactly, Jessica! Clean Language allows you to really clarify what the other person really means and feels. Thank you for posting!

Clean language questioning is a technique that I learned that seems very beneficial. It seems like a great way to build report and dig deeper, while also reflecting on some level.

I think the Softeners will be a big help with my type of prospects. A lot of variables in our business and when we are asking questions, sometimes people are confused why we are asking certain things.

Excellent, Bernadette! The reflecting technique benefits both you and the student because it clarifies understanding.

I often use framing/reframeing techniques but I recognized that I often use the negative Interrogation method and will try to avoid that moving forward.....

Janet,

Great! It's important throughout the GROW process to help the student reach his or her best course of action. Check back in and let us know how it works for you!

I think the Reflecting Questioning Technique is will be most beneficial because it lets the prospective know you are listening and it builds the relationship to move forward.

I think that using grow questioning will help me to formulate more structured questions. I will be able to focus myself and the student in goals and real facts. This technique will facilitate to achieve factual and right solutions according to the specific student’s situations and concerns.
