Lead by example
Managers should lead by good professional example.
It would seem to me that delegating duties to your staff, would go along way in promoting team work, and probably even make your employees feel more appreciated and useful. This would also add to their knowledge of your job and theirs.
I would recommend you approach your boss, with the goal in mind of convincing him the value to him of delegating some of your duties you need help with.
If you come across as being concerned with office efficency as a Manager, not just to lighten your load. He may just agree.
I agree, that's how I like it too. The next thing you know you effected the entire room!!!
Effective leaders not only say they want to do the "right" thing; they follow through with appropriate actions-they "walk the way they talk."
I always try to be positive in my workplace. I find that this rubs off on other employees.
That's the only way to describe it. We MUST be an example not only to show the staff how to beahve and perform but also because we also may be under a close watch.
I believe that is the difference between a MANAGER and a LEADER! LEADER= walk the walk, don't just talk!
I consider myself a LEADER by example. I had a MANAGER who said "well, I just don't know how to manage you!" Ha!
I had a boss once, who told me that I cannot delegate any duties to my staff that are specified in my job description. Trouble is, everything that I need assistance getting done, is actually specified in my personal job description! Whew! What would you recommend?
Setting example only brings a good positive behavior to everyone.
I always think of what I can do to help improve things. :-)
I believe that leading by quiet example rather than constant nagging or promotion about how "they" should act is one way to drive the appropriate behavior. There is also value to having at least one meeting laying out expectations and it is crucial that we begin the desired behavior immediately.
I completely agree. The most effective way to lead and teach others postive behaviors is to be the EXAMPLE.
I keep this in mind at all times as it challenges me to be the best that I can be, while exhibiting a positive example.
Absolutely, I never expect anyone to do something that I would not do myself. However, I do not want to do everyting my self, so it is certainly ethical and good business to delegate responsibilities to staff as needed. Work smarter, not harder.
