Leader not Manager

how many of you remember those managers who were just that...a manager. "Do as I say, not as I do!" Contrary to popular belief you can be both. Enbrace the leadership, then manager the platform you showed to be great.

I agree! This has been a technique I have used since I began teaching. It is very effective in maintaining a good relationship with nearly every student in the class. As always, if students attend the classes regularly they clearly seem to have a better appreciation of the process as well as better understanding of the information they learn from the course.

I agree. Lead the class and manage the process of how you will deliver course content.

I agree with you. When a new class starts I set the ground rules and expectations but as the quarter continues I do tend to ease up some. I teach clinicals so I love to be right there helping them through the hands on learning.

Roger,

I agree with your strategy. As instructors, we set the tone for the entire class at the beginning. Easing up later doesn't show weakness. It shows that everyone vested in the class has a common goal to work towards - a team effort. Leading by example is the best way to instill good habits towards others becoming good leaders.

With each class I begin as an athority figure then as class progresses I become a managing leader. I think it works well.
