Boss involvement in work load

With regards to working and getting support from your supervisor or boss, I would like to ask how one would go about letting your boss know if he/she is actually helping or defeating time management direction? I have found that supervisors do not like to be told they are wrong even if its done in a nice easy approach! CEE has offered several steps to communicate with your supervisor, but where is the research that shows if it works?

I like to "steer" my boss gently over to my point of view, while being subtly firm. It leaves him with the underlying feeling of what I want/need to do, so he can ok it without being "told" what to do.

Perhaps try managing your time the way your boss wants you to when he/she is around. When he/she is not around manage your time how you see most effective. That way you can try to get the best of both worlds and hopefully both you and your boss will be happy...

John,

Time mangement techniques that involve others are rarely easy to implement as the others involved may not share your position. I am not sure there is much research that shows how well some of the ideas presented in the course work. They are suggestions that many have found effective.

The variable that cannot be controled for in the scenario you describe is the boss. The bets you may be able to do is manage the time aways from your boss if your boss is not likely to react well to your suggestions.
