Good point. Working seven days per week is not a great idea. We need to be rested to perform well.

Jeffrey Schillinger

Yes, I think when it comes to the weekend, at least one of the days should be spent doing non work related activities. It is so easy to get caught up in responding to work emails, and preparing for the upcoming week, and as a result affects family members. It's also more beneficial to the students if I come back to work rested and refreshed on Monday.

I book apts on Outlook to "hit the gym"

Chanelle,

This is a great plan. We need to step away and recharge for a few minutes each day. I go get a coffee and then find an alternative way back to my desk so I can say hello to folks I do not normally see every day.

Jeffrey Schillinger

I like to take 10 mins here and maybe 20 mins there for myself in a given day. I remove all technology so that I am not distracted. A lot of the times I just need a moment to breath...to remove all the clutter from my brain. Breathing can be for me, is to get out of the same space, take a walk, or nibble on a yummy treat. Once I have those moments then I am good to move forward.

Kim,

How does this technique help you manage time better?

Jeffrey Schillinger

I work as a Resident Property Manager and I work at a school at the Resource Center. On weekends that is my time unless there is a fire flood or no A/C or Heat I only answer my phone for family memebrs. As I am a busy person, my weekends are mine. Even if I have to drive away so tenants do not bother me thats what I do

Theresa,

Thanks. I hope this keeps working for you.

I take longer routes to go get coffee, or to see colleagues. It may only add 2 minutes, but it gives me a chance to "look busy" so people tend to not interrupt, and it's enough time to let your mind settle. That's at work.

At home, honestly, I make the time by being a powerhouse getting everything done. I've always had the mindset that the best way to procrastinate is to get all your work done, and you can procrastinate indefinitely! So I have a running list of everything that needs to be done, chore-/life-management wise, and I do as much as I can stomach during the week. Once the weekend arrives, I have at least a couple of hours I can justfy taking for me because everything has been kept up.

Christina,

I have found that getting away from the campus and turning off my blackberry is the only way that works for me.
