"We are Working on it"
This statement is a stress inciting statement for me, as nothing results from it. As I see the business disolving in front of me, getting yelled at from various people not being able to give true to fact answers to reduce the level of stress on both sides. Leaving you with the only answer that they gave you "We are Working on it". Maybe this statement should be listed as the start of the stress cycle in the workplace.
I have found that we practically live in an environment where we need to keep portions of our plans confidential. As a result, we frequently roll out intitiatives without being able to completely answer all questions. This makes it difficult as leaders to prevent the frustration and stress level from rising amongst subbordinate staff members. We do our best to message that more information will follow and that "we are working on it," when there is a challenge. However, I am always open to learning new and more effective methods. Your thoughts?
Henry,
If we stop and take notice of the situation and think clearly we are much better suited for a rational decision. Reaction is often used in the form of defense when sometimes this is not needed for survival.
Good self-control is a key to better stress managment.
It is just like the lesson stated that in stressful situation one must be able to stop, breath, reflect and charter a new pathway. Because we as individual will act out of emotion rather than factual truths and rationally.
Henry
Often there may be times where confidentiality will prevent us from sharing. Beyond this pproviding the opportunity for employees to share the ownership of the challenge.
I don't completely agree. some projects by management design must be kept somwhat confidential for good reason. I do agree with you that it can be the beginning of a stressfull incident and perhaps the fix for that situation is for those who "are working on it" to give a brief summary of who is working on it and what general progress is being made. They may lower your stress by inviting you to help "work on it".
You are correct. My direction within a crisis with stress is to reflect and come to the table with ideas. What could the solutions be? Team building from the past pays off.
