That's interesting. In my experience, I have felt stressed because of a stretch assignment before. I remember that the bar that was set seemed impossible to reach and I stressed over it. However, I just took it one day at a time and actually ended up exceeding the expectation of my leaders.
Debbie Kay Kirkland,
Assignments may seem daunting to an employee or employees but history shows that great leaders were able to know the limits of their people. There have businesses, wars, movements etc. that had great leaders that were able to help people exceed their own expectations by the leader giving the direction necessary to achieve at new higher levels.

The response is the logical step to take ("break the assignment down into smalller manageable parts"). However, is it possible that the workload can exceed the time-limit given?
If a limited time-frame is given, yet no allowance for "over time" to complete the task; prioritizing (due to importance of assignments)becomes critical. But, should it still be possible to meet deadlines merely by prioritizng when allotted time is not sufficient?
Melissa,
Emotion is what mainly escalates a tough situation. Your challenge is to not raise your emotion but keep your cool! This was a golden rule when I worked for 20 years with behavioral disordered students. This was a daily challenge but I can affirm it works.

Hello Susan,
I agree that breaking down the stress into managable parts helps to clearly difuse the the stress. Once one section is completed, take a few relaxed minutes and then move on to the next!
sidney,
There is good stress that motivates us and there is bad stress that comes from emotional trauma which if not handled correctly can be a health issue for you.

What helps me with managing a large project is to break it down daily into smaller parts and and complete the goals of the day. Sometimes the work load can be too much, you have to have options to deal with the stress.
Susan,
All of our challenges have steps to success. Breaking them down is a good practice to measure our results in smaller steps until we completely succeed.
