What not to say to a potential student.
Don't ask if they are still interested in going to school.
Jessica ,
The commission prohibits any job guarantees or the recording of salaries that cannot be verified by a reliable source. This is part of the fair consumer practices regulations.
Patty Aronoff
Our school does not guarantee jobs or give salaries to our potential students. We only ever use statistics from the NCRA for the average amount they make in the profession they chose.
I completely agree with you Mayda. Being completely honest with the prospective students you encounter is extremely important. It shows the integrity of the school you work for, and also shows the student that you are there to help them, not to scam them.
Collins ,
Misleading information has no place in the business we are in. Fair consumer practices guide us.
Patty Aronoff
I totally concur. It is imperative that we dont mislead potential students. The job market is already fierce, its your skills, personality, and experience that will land you employment.
Helmi,
Never....never....never. Everyone's situation will b different.
Patty Aronoff
I agree...One should never give salary expectation to a student.
Udo,
By asking the question differently, you can find out the information you need rather than placing the student on the defensive.
Udo,
We want them to be confident, not second guess themselves.
i agree but it should be worded differently, instead of asking if they are still interested in school, a question of whether their interest in the course of study has changed
i totally agree, it just gives them a reason to second guess their education
Hannah,
It is important for you to understand in order to assist the student. We should never assume.
Karyn,
I believe it is an important question to ask. We need to know the background in order to improve.
I am curious as to why this shouldn't be asked as well?
Is it not best for the admissions representative to have a clear understanding of where the student stands in regards to his/her level of interests in pursuing education for purposes of best assisting them?
Why is it not appropriate to ask a perspective student if they are still interested in attending school?
Vivian,
We can only provide assistance, not guarantees.
you cant never guaratee a job because you never know what can happen in the future or while the student is in school.
Vivian,
It is important to research well and ask questions to a feel of what the school is about.
i alway encourage the potential student to talk to others and always check online for information.
