Helping students

The role of admission should be to help student achieve their career goals through education and this should be emphasized across all school. Education is important and finding the right school and right program is a part of that process all so

Ashley,

Active listening is so important. We need to make sure that this is the right fit for them and for us!

Patty Aronoff

The role of an admissions rep is of course to enroll students but I think its important not to lose focus of the fact the you are setting them up with a decision that will impact their life and shape their future. I agree with the Shauna. Listen to each student and help them make this life changing decision.

Carla,
You have words of wisdowm. Having students sit the first day is a great day, but having them graduate is the best. It takes a whole school effort to get them there.

Working as an admissions advisor for 4 years made me comprehend that we need to fulfill not only the goals of our students but also guide them through the whole process until graduation. Our institution will serve as their second home and will make them feel that here, they have a family. My main goal is to make sure every single student gets the attention needed and make them feel that we are not here only to choose a program, but to help them choose what they will love in the future.

Rachel, I totally agree Admissions is not just an enrollment, Admissions needs to work as a team with all departments such as FA, especially education to ensure the students are receiving the education they are paying for. Admissions also should follow the student through to completion of the program.

I agree with Shauna. It serves no purpose to place students or recommend them for programs which don't meet their goals. I think it is important to spend time with the potential student and really try to identify what they want in terms of applying their chosen study for a career.

Shauna,
Admissions does play such an important role. We vet our students go make sure they are a good match for the program of their choosing.

Helping students is the main purpose of the admissions department. It is important for staff to listen to the students to learn what their goals are and to also accurately assess the students knowledge and talents so that the student finds a program of study that will be something that the student will stick with versus something thats no compatible with the students interest.

Samantha,
Going to school is not easy but the rewards are great. Support our students.

Rachel,
Admissions should have a role right through their entire school progress.

Often times students need guidance in finding a career path that suits their life style but also prepares them to be more financially and emotionally stable (through job security). I frequently tell students, "If going to school was easy, everybody would do it." I think it helps prospective students realize that they are making the decision to move forward and education is the best way to do that.

I have been working in Education for many years, and my opinion is: the role of Admissions is wider than just to get the student enrolled in a program. Admissions should be working closely with all the departments and all the students until graduation - to help students in all the stages of studying: keep track of their progress, make sure they are satisfied with the course(s)they chose, help them with their credit transfer process, assisting them in filling out for financial aid, etc.

Marsha-Ann,
You are so right! It is about the right fit in order to achieve their dreams.

I agree with Marsha.Education is very precious for an individual.Mistake in the Admission should be avoided because he will cause a disaster if wrong directions were given. The student will be out of tract and will waste time and money. An admission adviser must be careful when passing information.
