Admissions & Deadlines

I have trouble with students meeting the deadlines.

I ask but dont require all of our admission requirements the first day of school, then I give them ten days from the first day of school. But yet, I still have those who don't comply... What do you do?

Yes. We have the same issue. But since we do have creative students and the requirements include portfolio work I tend to allow a little leeway with deadlines.

christopher,

Value is the key! Follow up ensures that the prospective student can realize the value and make the best decision for their future.

i think building the relationship is key and making sure the value is built so that the students wants to complete the task. And good follow-up ensures that.

marissa,
Continued contact with the student is very important to the success of the relationship. If the the contact has grown stale, find out if it is still of value or replace.

Follow up and call them during the ten days and let them know that you need to submit their information as your job requirement. if by the 10th day they have still not complied let them know they may be dropped due to the materials not being received.

Deadlines are are component of compliance. Follow-through ensures that all paperwork is completed and reviewed with the student giving them ample time for clarification.

I always establish deadlines for any required paperwork and give the student a copy of the deadlines for what is required to assist them in making the deadlines on time. In addition I follow-up with every student on the required paperwork to see if there are any questions that need to be answered. This process seems to work well for me.

Michael,
Persistence is key. You are also setting up the expectations of the school. Students must realize responsibility and that procrastination will not work to their success.

Mary,

Good advice! The enrollment agreement is considered a contract so it must be completed prior to enrollment. The best practice is to have all paperwork signed, proof of graduation received and the student fully packaged prior to start. When the student starts classes, admissions paperwork tends to take a back seat as they have moved on.

Abigail,

Deadlines are imposed for a reason. For some schools, their policy requires that all paperwork must be completed before first day sit. For others, it is 30 days. Student responsibility is shown in their attention to deadlines and requests. My suggestion is to set expectations early and keep up with the student. Treat this just like a new employee hire.

Hi Abigail-

Is it possible to tighten your deadline date by setting an exactdeadline date? Do you also set up follow up reminders to reach out to the students before they start? I usually hunt my down. In most cases I get what I need. I hope this helped.

Regards,
Michael

I normally set up two or three appointments if necessary prior to a start date, just to ensure that all of the proper documentation is provided and completed! Sometimes everyone has to figure out a routine and keep it in play. The only thing you should have to finish at the start date is sometimes the contract because we have to wait for feedback regarding grants from the department of education!

Is there a certain time frame by law that an admissions representative must have all the documentation complete?
