Attendance is a big issue for certain schools.
I have attended so many schools in the last 11 years, and every school has its own policy about the attendance issue.
The smaller size schools are struggeling to get students in and therefore, they try to make it as simplified and as sweet for the students as possible by not stressing much on attendance.
I know of schools that would let you attend only one day a week and will count it as a 40 hour week. I know that this is done in order for the school not to lose the student and the money that he or she is paying.
How do we do to enforce the attendance issue without getting the small schools to lose the money?
Jessica,
Attendance is developing that work ethic that employers are looking for. Commitment with responsibility are excellent traits.

I think the best way is to keep contacting the student to remind them that by attednign classes, then they can finish their certification in a timely manner. I don't think contacting the student in regards to attendance is a bad thing.
Patricia ,
I am a believer that if we create an environment that is inviting and rewarding, the tudents will overcome any obstacle to come to class. Conversely, if the environment is boring and nobody cares, then why make the effort?

Angel,
Calling the student is a routine retention strategy, whether it is at home or work. I know of some schools that even do home visits! Now that is something!

Sometimes instead of stressing over attendance we should be looking how to engage our students more!
Yes! Very well said. Speaking on the varied-levels of attendance "strictness"... I just left a Recruitment Team meeting where I learned it is my school's policy that instructors call the home(s) of students who have been absent from his/her class.
Melinda,
Attendance is part of being successful at school. They are developing a standard for employment work ethic.

Attendance at our school is just as important as your GPA. This also helps show a future employer your work ethic.
Pamela,
So true! We are developing our students in the world of professionalism and it starts on day one of class.

A student with poor attendance is a employee with poor attendance. When starting on a path to increase knowledge and training good attendace should be a part.
Renae,
I believe it is about setting realistic expectations and holding everyone accountable. We are training the students in professionalism and work ethics.

I am glad of that becsuse each schools students have different needs.
This is true, i have a small school and i found that when i wasn't strict on attendence the students was horsing around, but we enforced our attendence policy and my few students began to come. But these students pay tuition out of pocket. We dont get federal money.
cosette,
It is not a requirement of CIE to track attendance. Each individual school can make the choice of requiring attendance.
