Accreditation vs Title IV

Can anyone clarify the main differences between the accreditation and the title IV certification?

Keisha,

Excellent post. You have outlined the role of accreditation and its relationship with USDOE and Title IV.

Patty Aronoff

Accreditation is awarded to an institution of higher education by a
regional accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of
Education, it means that the institution has (1) a mission appropriate to
higher education, (2) resources, programs, and services sufficient to
accomplish and sustain its mission, (3) clearly specified educational
objectives that are consistent with its mission and appropriate to the
degrees it offers, and that it is (4) successful in assessing its
achievement of these objectives and demonstrating improvements, while
Title IV certification refers to the approval post-secondary schools must
receive from the U.S. Department of Education to be an eligible
institution for receiving Title IV federal financial aid from eligible
students. An institution cannot receive TITLE IV funds without being
nationally or regionally accredited.

Donard,

Your school must have accreditation by an approved agency by the USDOE in order to apply to have your students receive Title IV loans.
