I like to use current student testimonilas so that they can feel what other students are accomplishing. I also like to paint a mental a pic of present status vs future status!
Mel,
Passion is the best motivator. I can't agree more. When we see the passion in our students, it is the best!

wanda,
Yes, no matter what happens, they need to see that their success is right before them. Giving up is not an option.

ARIELYS,
So cool! It really brings it home when you hear from those who "have been there, done that" realizing their dreams and successes.

Barbara,
This is where career services can help. They can provide you with the market requirements for positions in their dream field. This will show that education sets them far apart from the competition.

Barbara,
Motivation is brought about by an inner desire. We can create opportunities to draw out that inner desire. Awards, recognition of achievement, contests are some of the opportunities that work.

Passion. I believe if you articulate to the students that they need to first be passionate about what they are doing. Nothing should stop them from obtaining their dreams. The motivation to do better for themselves starts from within and while shine out for everyone else to see and take notice.
One of the ways I find to be helpful is to be honest with them and after listening to thier story is to share mine. I become passionate and tell them that in accomplshing their dreams they have to set the exaample. Sometimes they stop talking and then they move forward to begin their dreams. The key is to keep them motivated.
One of the ways I love to motivate students is presenting them with testimonies of other students that have completed the program, passed the board and obtained employment.
I have come across some students who feel that college is too cumbersome or in the way of their dreams. This is when I become passionate and tell them that school will on help in accomplshing their dreams. Sometimes they look at me as if I were a "nerd." Is there any other ways of preaching that seems "cool"?
