Involving alumni in the admissions process - is licensing required?
How does the involvement of alumni in the admissions process relate to the requirement that "outside admissions agents" need to be licensed. Many potential students ask to be put in contact with graduates. Sometimes these graduates may also be invited to information sessions and to speak to potential applicants about attending.
Are the graduates "admission agents"? Do they need to be licensed in Florida?
michael,
You are correct. Alumni are a great resource.

Patty,
So, it sounds like alumni can speak to students and participate in marketing events, but cannot be paid, correct?
Agents, on the other hand, are paid, and have the ability to sign enrollment contracts?
Is this about right?
Thanks,

Daney,
We put so much credibility in the voices that go before us, even more so if we know that person. This is where PDLs are so valuable.

I could not agree more! When I was first going through the admissions process when starting my college career, the alumni testimonials actually played a key role in my final decision. I felt like I was able to gain a "behind-the-scenes" look into the potential school I was applying to. Their experiences and success stories actually helped solidify my final degree choice and plan of attack for my own college plan. personally feel that it's better they are not required to be licensed. It makes their stories relateable to the student.
Andrea ,
Alumni are just that...graduates that can provide you testimonials. They are not conducting business on behalf of the school so do not have to be licensed as an agent.

I'm glad that this question was asked. So would alumni technically be considered as part of the marketing plan? i.e. 3rd party endorsements?
William ,
They are! A wonderful resource with a powerful message to give those considering enrolling.

Robert,
Agents are employed by the institution to conduct business on their behalf outside of the physical location.

I would imagine that alumni would could be among the most powerful and helpful tools to prospective students.
Graduates can be an excellent referral source but are never considered as an agent for the school.
Alan,
Agents are representing the school and are authorized to write business. Alumni speaking to potential students are not considered agents.
