Rolling Admissions vs. Application Deadlines
I have worked in Universities with both a set application deadline and with rolling admissions, so no set deadline. There are obviously advantages and disadvantages to both. I was wondering if others had any input on best practices for both options? I have found that Rolling Admissions can be a little more chaotic throughout the year, while having a set application deadline means that things are busy during a window of time, but makes the rest of the year easier due to the ebb and flow.
Eric ,
There are many schools that have rolling admissions. It is important to meet our enrollment goals, but equally important to make sure the student is fully prepared to start. Sometimes delaying a month ensures a solid start.

I have only worked with Universities with rolling admissions in place. However, i have always attempted to input cyclical parameters when informing students of start dates. If they inquire and want to start in a certain month they need to inquire during a specific time before the preferred start date.
Lindsay,
I will be looking to the forum for other responses but can tell you from experience, it really comes down to the school and their business plan.

Brian,
You bring a valid point. Some would say that quotas are alive and enrollments are made to meet those marks. Rolling admissions takes away from that argument.

From an operational angle, it seems that rolling admissions allows more flexibility for applicants and admissions staff. Having a set deadline can provide clarity for both parties, but also causes stress as the deadline approaches.
