To me having a good website can be one of the best things for your institution. Now and days it is the first thing that people look at when searching for somewhere to attend courses. It needs to be "stupid easy." If the person searching or reviewing a website is finding it difficult to toggle back and forth between pages, search bars or anything like that they will move on to a different website. So it is critical to have a very well laid out website.

Seeing where your school comes up in the search engine query is so important. If you are not showing up until page 16, I would question how many people are going that far in their search.

Besides owning your school's name with a .EDU or .COM, you may also want to try to register a generic description of what it is you teach in the hope of being indexed by search engines to act as a backdoor to your site.
