Catalog
I think being able to know the information that is in a catalog canhelp you be a better admissions representative. The more knowledge you have about the programs offered the better you can serve a potential student.
Kerrie,
This is a very good point in that career services should be involved with the student from the beginning with the career goal in mind.

To add to that, I think we should know the catalog backwards and forwards but also if there is an approved website your institution uses for information about job outlook, salary, etc. we should know that information too. I think it's an asset to be able to bring information to the table for the student that is not in the catalog such as additional potential jobs. It helps the student envision his or herself after graduation in that goal career and helps personalize your conversation so they don't feel like they're being recruited.
Shabetai,
I wholeheartedly agree. This is what students rely on from Admissions staff in order to make the decision for their education.

The more you know the more you can communicate with confidence. The more confident you are the more convincing you become
carrie,
Absolutely! Knowledge is power. The students rely on us for that knowledge.
Patty Aronoff
I agree 100% the more knowledge you have of your institute and the programs the better you can assist any possible students through their process.
Mauricio ,
All admissions representatives should know the catalog backwards and forwards. The catalog is part of the contract with the student and the admissions representative should be ready to discuss.
