I use a text, as well and in the letter, I tell the student to contact me right away to confirm.
Students who have jobs seem to be a lot better at understanding that time is linear:-)

Tours bring the whole process to an individual experience. When walking the tour it is always advantageous to meet people within the program so that it gives the student another opportunity to ask questions.

Aside from ensuring that you are following all rules and regulations, you can offer a customized tour based on their interests and goals. This can be for example giving them the opportunity to meet a certain professor or member of the organization. This will increase their desire and likelyhood of coming for a tour. Make time in the middle of the tour for the interview to ensure this is also covered.
