Post Grad Job Placement
In our educational area we find it very important to track how many of our graduates are being placed into our field. We also like to get information about job like or dislike 6 months after placement. But we are always interested in hearing other success stories on gathering these statistics.
Latia,
Consumers always tie into keywords that match their desires. This is what marketing does and captures the audience. Words can play a very important role and how we use those words can encourage expected outcomes.
Patty Aronoff
This is brillant. Nice play on words. One of the most frustrating situation after finishing school for some is finding a job in your field. Often times I believe while searching for a job we tend to hold the insitution accountable for either placing or not being able to be placed with employment. Although job placement is very important in an institution it is not guaranteed and depends upon the work and effort of the student. I will be spreading the word of "career assistance" nice alternative to word job placement.
Giselle,
It is true! The words that we use make a difference in the perception of the outcome. This is where the Commission is very concerned about the use of certain terms. They can be very misleading which is against the law.
Patty Aronoff
I really like the idea of using the term career assistance instead. I find that this is actually one of our greatest challenges. Everyone, prospective students and parents alike want to know about life after graduation. If this matter isn't addressed from the time a student enrolls, it can create false expectations and make for a very unhappy student.
Nelida,
It is their dream! The commission requires that we provide placement services. Is the opportunity for us to assist our students in resume building, interviewing skills, and opportunities in the community.
Patty Aronoff
Yes, it is very important to place our student they come to obtain an education not only for knowledge but to commence their career once graduated. All graduates look forward to a career.
Marta,
As consumers we want to know that the program we are enrolling in is a viable one. this is where placement figures present a picture of the opportunities that are available to graduates.
Patty Aronoff
we also like to keep track of the student job placement rate we also like to keep track what the jobs are looking for.
Myron,
Great point! Word choice is so important. As you have demonstrated there is no guarantee for job placement. We do provide assistance but there are no guarantees.
Patty Aronoff
Paola,
Externships are a great way for the school to connect to the community. It gives them an opportunity to work with our students on a one to one basis to develop their skills and provide growth in the workplace. Often times the site will hire the extra.
Patty Aronoff
I recently met with a prospective student and their parent. The parent asked me is there any guarantee placement for the student after graduating. I was very strong in my respond assuring there was no such thing as guarantee job placement after graduating. That conversation drove me to review my selection of words when talking about careers after college. Since then I have stop using the word “Job Placement†and simply replaced it with career assistance. Having made a change in word choice most parents and student’s sense of entitlement has reduced. Graduations rate are Important to document and record but students must understand this is a competitive job market where having a degree is a plus, but does not guarantee employment.
We try to stay proactive when it comes to job placements, we expose our students to externship opportunities throughout their program so that they are able to experience what kind of jobs they will be applying to upon completion. It also allows for our externship sites to provide us with feedback on our students and they may also choose to hire them upon graduation if they like what they saw during the externship, which is great for our students. We find these externship boosts their confidence and eases their nerves when it comes to job searching upon graduation.
Johanna,
Placement rate is an indicator of success at your school. If students go to your school and graduate and get a job then that is your success rate.
Patty Aronoff
David,
It is very important that all schools take placement of their students very seriously. It is an indicator of the success of the school if their students are able to secure a position within their career field based on their educational objectives.
Patty Aronoff
It is very important to keep track of placements, how many of them were there, are they happy where they have been placed or have the found another opportunity and we just didn't know about it. in order to have a successful placement rate we need to be on top of this information.
