Elisa,
There are many public and private institutions that provide High School and GEDs. It takes extensive research to determine whether or not a school is legitimate. I am not aware of any published listing by the state of Florida or any accrediting body for a black list.
Elisa,
Validation of proof of high school or GED is a necessary part of the enrollment process.
The process to validate a HSD is a long one and it delays the enrollment process. The DOE should provide the list and keep it updated. If a school is banned from providing High School Diplomas, we all should know, that way we can keep our own records and avoid be in violation of any rules.
I wrote to the DOE and they told me that they are aware of the list but they are not coming up with any such list. I believe they should put a list together and make it a part of the validation process.
We have an unacceptable diplomas list on our employee portal. However, if a diploma isn't on that list but isn't the typical hsd or ged, then we evaluate it based on the requirements needed to obtain it.
It would be great if the DoE would put out a list of unacceptable dipomas on a tier system... which are valid for state colleges, tech schools, etc.
There needs to be a UNIFORM process for ALL entities purporting to offer a "high school diploma": anything that does not conform to that standard, whatever it is, should be shut down. Period.
There needs to be a qualified accepted list.
