How long should we keep paper documents?

My scanner is my best friend. I find that scanning documents creates a file that can be viewed and shared with others in the organization. It also contains the students file so the papers will not be lost.

At our institution we have started the process of digitizing the records of students through scanner designed for this purpose so that it can significantly reduce the physical space for the archiving of these records in print.

Yes! Student records are required to be kept in secure locations and to be made available at any time as requested by the commission.

We are a small school and I am now the keeper of mountains of student records,the majority of which are not current Do these have to be easily reachable?

Student records are kept in perpetuity. Other records are maintained as to your institution's record retention policy.
