At my time of hire last year my Admissions Director instructed me to start building a Resource Binder. I am so happy that she did because if a manager or director is at lunch or is on vacation and I need an answer I go straight to my Resource Binder. I have been printing all the modules and hyperlink files provided during this training to add to my binder. Best idea ever!
I feel it is a vital part of your job in admissions to be organized and quickly be able to utilize your resources(paperwork). I build a structure of catagories and sub-catagories almost like an outline, it keeps me very organized, and it is easy to locate or add additional information.
I started printing out all documentation and organizing it in a binder with specific tabs for each section. This way it is easy to locate all the information needed at any time throughout my training process. Also, I created a folder on my computer where I am saving the documentation. This also helps to easily locate the paperwork and information, as it is important to keep it updated with the most current information needed to be within compliance.

You have the best of both worlds! Having a notebook as well as the electronic files gives you both opportunities to find the information you need.

Melissa,
It's those little details that can get us into a bind. Having the notebook provides us the opportunity for clarity.

I have a organized binder with sliders and I have it electronically on my computer so its always at my finger tips.
Having a binder is key to being prepared for any circumstance especially all the little details.
By creating a binder with specific sections relating to all of the following documents: updated copy of the commission rules, commission newsletters, admissions training course materials, admissions enrollment agreement, catalog, and applicable school policy documents, I will be able to stay organized and detailed oriented. I also believe keeping sticky notes in the front pocket of the binder will be a good addition in case pages need to be flagged or labeled.
I have binders that are labeled specifically for what I need. In those binders I divide the material by specific areas that need to be linked together. I also label all tabs so that the sections can easly be identified. I highlight all areas that I feel is high priority.
I am in the process of creating a folder to have everything in one place and I will use color coded page dividers to divide each part for instance defintions from statutes and so forth.
Kristin,
Excellent! Being organized in your notebook allows you to access the information you need quickly.

Created a binder with dividers to help streamline the process of looking up rules/regs. If there is an update, it will be printed with "updated as of..." written on it with the old rule/reg behind it to view what specifically has changed.
Becky,
Excellent! Continue to add resources that will assist you in remaining compliant.

I have a binder going with all the MaxKnowledge paperwork. I also have another pocket in the binder which our Corporate Office sends us updates on what is changing. I love it :)
Robin,
Check sheets are a great tool and organization. They provide you an up-to-the-minute look at what's inside.
