Social Media in the Admissions Process

Does your school utilize social media to communicate with applicants? If so, what feedback can you offer?

María,

Social media is part of the new generation of communication. Brings many opportunities to stay connected in a virtual world

Patty Aronoff

Yes, we do. For us it is very important the advertisment in the social media, it is necessary if you want to have a lot of posibilities to be a good educational institution and to be update in Twitter, Facebook, Blogs...
And the feedback that we offer is in Facebook, Twitter, Skype, Blogs and lots more.
Thank you.

David,

As we are learning about the different aspects of social media, we are beginning to see the power that it holds. We do need to be mindful of the information that is available on the web.

Patty Aronoff

Valerie,

Keeping connected with your students is essential for the future of alumni and the possibility of personally developed leads. Social media is part of the thread of communication today.

Patty Aronoff

Social media is something that my school has used in a limited way. However, it is now a very important component to the way we communicate with students and prospects. Today's student wants to have information instantly, but more and more in a social setting, accessed from anywhere. That said, one needs to be mindful of communicating in an ethical way, focused on integrity.

At our institute we encourage social media networking as a tool to get our students recognized before they are finished with our program so that they are known in the industry and can get a head start on their career. As far as for our school, we also have a Facebook Fan page that keeps the public informed of our events and programs.

Valerie

Claudia,

Using social media takes attention to detail. People who visit Facebook on a regular basis expect a high change of information.

Patty Aronoff

Our school has a Facebook page. I personally have not utilized it yet.

Schlegel,
Social media is under the restrictions of advertising under the Florida commission. We need to be cognizant of the rules of advertising and the placement of information on the web. Also FERPA requires that student information be held confidential.

Patty Aronoff

Marivel,
It is a great way to advertise for your school. Pictures of events and notification of activities on campus can be placed out on Facebook.

Patty Aronoff

David,

Facebook is under the same restrictions as advertising under the Florida rules. We have to be careful with Facebook on what we post and make sure that we are not using any of the misleading parts of the law.

Patty Aronoff

Jessica,

Excellent point! It does bring a relaxed atmosphere when using social media. However it does bring immediacy to communication. Many people check their social media sites many times throughout the day.

Patty Aronoff

Rachel,

Social media is a great way to stay connected. It has become part of our culture and our communication. We do have to be cautionary in the use of social media when conducting business.

Patty Aronoff

Social media is a great tool to stay in touch with institution wide events and circulate information for recruitment. Requesting important documents surely is a different affair. The tone for social media communication is too casual. What I would like to ask is how does that method of communication violates privacy or might compromise it?

Speaking of Facebook, are there any limitations/restrictions on attracting prospective students specifically on social media platforms? Social media is a great tool to connect with people.

Facebook is a great free way to connect not only with students but also help attract prospective students as well.

We have used it in the past and have mixed feelings towards it. Prospective students seem to accept it as a more casual form of communication and don't respond as quickly or seriously vs email and other types of communication.

I know that some representatives from my campus use Facebook to get in touch with some students. Also when we go to schools and ask for referrals- if students dont have their referrals phone numbers we ask that they provide us with their facebook names and we can contact them via facebook.
