How Can it Be your Fault?
The last question stated that if we are not informed of a change in the institution, as an Admissions Representative, that we are at fault if we incorrectly give a prospective student wrong information? That doesn't necessarily make sense, considering we deliver the information passed down to us.
Gunay,
That is an excellent process! Setting our calendars to review any possible changes is an excellent practice today.

Giselle,
Everyone at the school is responsible for providing accurate and compliant information. There is no excuse if a student is provided incorrect information. in the world that we live in today the information is readily available. It's just better to say I don't know to them than to mislead.
Patty Aronoff
Changes occur regularly, therefore it is crucial for the representative to stay current on all information. It is not always good to wait for your institution to give you updates you should take it upon yourself and look for changes. It is a good idea to mark your calendar for a specific day each month and review for changes. If the changes have not been initiated by the institution the representative can bring it to the attention of the director.
I do understand the two points being made here. The question is a little confusing in the sense that it is true, we are passing down information… Although the correct answer to the question is that admission reps are responsible, based on compliance. I think the institution as a whole is responsible as well.
Minelba,
It is imperative that any change be relayed to the admissions representative. After all they are providing the information to the prospective student. An omission of vital information could be considered misleading and against the law.
Patty Aronoff
Megan,
If everyone takes the effort to research and remain current, then we have a full team on the watch.
Patty Aronoff
Jennifer,
Everyone has an obligation to remain current and stay with the rules and regulations to keep our school compliant. The website for CIE and your program specialist are there to assist you.
Patty Aronoff
Cindy,
Unfortunately there's no way out for not knowing. With the information availability we have to be proactive in knowing what the rules and regulations are.
Patty Aronoff
That is interesting, if the institution makes a change and neglects to tell the admissions representative it is their responsibility. That means the clear lines of communication within the institution is vital. I think it is a good idea to assign one person to verify changes, however, I will be checking for myself.
This question almost threw me for a loop. But it states in the beginning that the statues and things of that nature should be checked for updates every month. So yes it puts the burden on the institution and or the admissions to stay current in all aspects of the field.
Andrew,
With the advent of knowledge that is on the Internet, we are all responsible to be compliant. In Florida the sunshine law provides all the information everyone needs to become compliant.
Patty Aronoff
Great point! However, I do see why we would need to keep up with the institution and its programs. Something we do to keep up to date is have one person in charge of updates for the institution. We always are advised of updates but this way there is a main person to double check everything and have both a hard and digital copy for the offices records.
I agree with the first response. Although it seems unfair to be responsible for unknown information, this puts the burden on the institution to stay up to date and informed on new rules so that the student is not negatively affected by any oversight.
Andrew,
I had trouble with that question too. After thinking about it, I decided that it would in fact be the Representatives responsibility to stay current and up to date with he/she's institutions rules and requirements.
Hope this helps you.
