Financial Aid Informaion in the Admissions Department
I don't like to go deep in the Finacial Aid process, just go over the options with the students. Institutions have to be careful with with this part and it's better that the Finacial Aid officer explain it to them.

Agreed! But there is a point where having a survey knowledge is different than having in-depth knowledge. Students will grasp onto the information they received, and if we give them the wrong information it is very detrimental.

Knowing the basics of financial aid and being cross trained in this area is becoming more and more important for admissions counselors. My recommendation is to never pass up the opportunity to expand your knowledge of financial aid. Your career path might depend on it!

Financially it is a very involved process. It is best left to those who know it best. You are right to defer to the financial aid officer.

That is an excellent breaking point. Since financial aid is only available to those who qualify, it is best left to the subject matter expert's in the financial aid department.

We really shouldn't go deep into financial aid like you state. Financial aid is very complex and individualistic so the matter is really best left with the financial aid officer.

I also do not discuss in detail Financial Aid. I let them know that we do offer Financial Aid to those who qualify. I try to set up a meeting with the perspective student and Financial Aid so they can have all their questions answered and then see what they qualify for.
That's the one thing they drive me crazy they don't understand that we can not talk about f/a then they don't want to talk they want f/a. Working on my smile's.
I only go over the tuition, I do not discuss what they might qualify for.
