Learning everyday
I have been in admissions for a little over a year now and I realize that no matter how long you've been doing this, you will continue to learn something new everyday. This training has open my eyes to the organization side of a admissions rep.
That is so true ... I find that everyday I learn something new that I didn't know or something that is helpful. I think that other people in the Admissions Department are a great resource. I find that some of my coworkers have a better way of explaining things that I wouldn't have thought to use as well.
I agree LaTrina! Each new situation we encounter in our positions allow us to learn new things as well as the new people we encounter. Our people skills should definitely be developing each day and our ability to address problems or issues should improve as well. Sitting in on interviews with other representatives help me a lot. It provides an opportunity to add to my skill set with handling students.
Marcus,
I like to think that changing lives means not only theirs by ours as well.
David,
So cool! Our sector is very exciting.
Our school offers very creative and exciting curriculum in 3d modeling, animation and VFX. In fact there are probably only about 3 other schools in the world that offer a track as intense as ours taught by industry experienced instructors who are required to continue working in the industry outside of time given to instruction. Ours is a relatively new industry niche that was built in part due to the knowledge our instructors helped create. So speaking with them on a weekly basis and at times auditing certain class periods is one of the best ways I stay informed of what we do and new developing trends. It helps me greatly when explaining to students what we do as well as lends credibility when speaking with potential students that already have a basis of understanding.
Training is an important part of your professional development; it should be embraced and welcomed. No mater how much professional experience you have, it is important to be receptive to building upon your knowledge bank. How can you help the student make a well informed decision if you don’t grow your skills as a professional? I can make an impact thru training especially if I implement what I have learned.
I passionately believe in the meaning of the phrase, “changing lives.”
I would very much agree with your comment. Once an individual in any profession believes they know it all , they take a fall.
Richard,
We are in a very dynammic environment where rules and procedures change daily. It is imperative to keep up-to-date and compliant. We can never become too comfortsble.
Training is an integral part of our job as admissions reps. There is so much to learn and the learning never stops. My company provides mandatory training on an ongoing basis. They also offer voluntary lunch and learns where they provide lunch for anyone who attends the training. No one will ever know everything there is to know about this business but continuous training helps keep us all up to speed.
Keep in mind when you feel you know everything that's when mistakes are made putting both yourself and your school in jeopardy.
David,
Thank you for the feedback. The learning never stops!
