Career Services offers such great assistance to our students! I love being on tour with my future students and getting to show off our Career Service center. Potential students are blown away with how much attention we give our students and grads and really help them not only while they are in school, but even after they have graduated.

Better stated, job placement assistance. They are not guaranteed a job after graduation.
I think the most important thing to remember, at least at our institution, is to tell students that THEY are the ones who sell themselves to an organization, and that their education is just one, albeit very important one, but just one tool in their toolkit they will need to bring to the table. That is where they can utilize the schools resources to learn how to be a better candidate. In this economy though it is so hard to imagine that anyone can actually claim 'job placement' when there are so few jobs for anyone out there, least of all someone with no experience. Maybe for trade schools it is easier, but for a 2, 4, and graduate granting degree seeking institution, we cannot make that type of guarantee ever. Very important to be clear with that.

Career Services is an important part of the educational process. They work hard to help our graduates with the interview and possible placement.
Career Services is a double edge sword.
It is easy to get motivated and excited about Career Services because it essentially represents what every student comes to our school for in the first place - to start a new career or advance in a present career. But Career Services can be a mine field we want to walk through carefully. We want to make sure we temper our enthusiasm with the reality that Career Services helps students with finding jobs, and that we do not let our enthusiasm tempt us into overselling the mission of Career Services.
Our campus is fairly new, so we dont have a career services rep yet. Im greatly anticipating having one join our team. The ultimate goal of attending school is to be able to get a job after graduation, and being able to show a prospective student all the resources that we are willing to share with them to help them acheive that goal will definitely help motivate them to take that step into furthering their education.

I agree. Having a proactive career services department is a huge asset to all students. It shows that our responsibility to our students extends outside of the classroom.
