Educational Programs
I have to say after reading this section it helped me a lot. I actually sat in on several classes at my institute and spoke to almost all the instructors. This was one of the best ways for me to learn about the programs at my school rather than reading the "Institutional Catalog". Did anyone eles experience this same learning experience?
Jennifer,
Sitting in on classes is a great way to become more involved in the student/classroom experience.
I have found that sitting in on a class helps to relate to the student's concerns about content, delivery, or even the instructor in general. It also helps to build rapport with the instructors and builds a more cohesive team within the organization.
Andrew,
So cool! What a great way to learn.
Jennifer,
I believe that all us learn better when we can experience it personally.
We call it " Product knowledge" and each program chair presents his program and explains the objectives and scope of study so admisions departament gets to know all the programs of study that the institution offer!
Tiffani,
Many will say they remember more about these experiences and the impact they had on themselves.
wel iam new here so i have done is meet with the chair to gain knowlege
We have a monthly training meeting that involves the Program Chair and we are taught about a specific class that our students may be attending that quarter. It really helps me to understand what the course load holds and the value that each student recieves. On top of learning from the Program Chair we also work with the Registration and FA department to learn more about what they have to offer to our students as well as any change to paperwork and what works best for them and us. Having the hands on experience with the head of each department has greatly improved my skills.
One thing that we do is pick one program each week and have the Program Chair/Department Head do a demonstration of one of the main topics in the program as part of our weekly Recruimtent meeting. For example, we will get on the computer and actually get to use one of the main programs used in the carriculum and actually feel like a student for that period of time. My team finds it very helpful and allows them to speak with confidence about what the students will have the opportunity to do during their time here.
