Financial Aid

Do you think as an admissions representative you should know all aspect of financial aid? If so Why?

Francisco,
Agreed! There is so much to keep up with in both departments.

Financial aid is something that can be very complicated. The admissions representative should have a general knowlege of options available but not in depth. I think the AR has a lot of things that he himself has to be aware of and keep up to date about the statutes and rules and regs which can change from one month to the next to also expect to have a profound knowledge of financial aid. It's better to refer the students to a Financial Aid Officer.

Tim,
It is a best practice to leave it to FA.

Stacy,
We would agree. They are the experts in the field.

I think they should have a very general knowledge of financial aid, but not offer any advice or information on financial aid. They should direct all questions to a financial aid officer.

No I do not beleive needs to everything about financial aid. Admission reps should some knoweledge to answer general questions but the financial aid should be the ones to answer specific questions regarding funding.

No, financial aid should have its own separate sector.

Ronnie,
It is so easy to mislead someone when we really don't know the material. It is best to say that the FAOs are the people to talk to.

No. Admissions Rep should have a good general knowledge of financial aid options available to a student but expecting them to know the ends and outs of FA especially title IV is unrealistic and can put students at a disadvantage.

Dequan,
In my opinion, no. Financial aid requires subject matter experts. Admission reps should have several degrees of separation. Financial aid regulations change daily.

Esterina,
We provide education for many that having financial aid is the only means possible for getting their dream.

Yes; because it is important to understand all aspects of the education industry.
