Job Placement and Career Services...Is it just a marketing tool?
We are passionate about education, training, job placement and giving back to the community through service because the future of our children and society as a whole is questionable. With all intensions of opening a job placement company to help our institution accomplish such, I was surprised to see that institutions can advertise placement and career services without having a full staff. Instead, can "simply contain books and forms for the student to use and to complete on their own" or "just a list of jobs posted on a board." This was interesting for me because I have attended schools that as a marketing tool, advertised job placement. On two occasions, I was able to get internship and employment only because I achieved the highest grade. I thank God for that but feel bad for my former colleagues that were never able to obtain employment (and never worked in the field) yet went to that particular school because they thought placement was certain.

I think some schools misguided students as they assume that the school will either help or guarantee a job placement. The real problem I see if that some students don't even know how to even properly prepare and/or interview for a potential job interview and even worse how to write a professional resume. I think us, educators need to place more emphasis on preparing our students for the future by teaching them the right tools such as above rather placing so much emphasis on the ideal job.
Miriam,
Start the student experience with their job in mind. Career services should be working with the students from day one preparing them for job leads.

May I have some ideas of what other institute use or do to obtain a 60% or higher in placement!
Tks
Keisha ,
Great response and well stated. There are no guarantees but it shows that we are there to support them in getting hired.

I have worked for a couple of other institutions did also offered Job Placement. I think it is a powerful tool if used correctly. First and foremost, we should not mislead students by giving the impression that placement is guaranteed. The emphasis should be on the fact that there is a great support system in place and the benefits of having a team of staff who`s soul purpose is to assist with job placement. I am considering going back to college and that is a major factor for someone like me is a little apprehensive about going back to school

Trang,
CIE requires that the institution provide placement assistance but there are no guarantees. It is in the best interest of both the student and the school to get our students placed. But you are right, there are no guarantees.

We have job placement board in our facility and we try to help them as much as we can, but that is no guarantee. The student have to have skill, earn an effort to get their dream job come true.
Rafael,
It is required by rule and just good business. You are exactly right, no guarantees.

i believe that all institutions must provide the service, but they can not guarantee to any of their students that they will get them employment.
Irma,
Students want to be sure that they get the assistance in getting the job of their dreams. It is difficult in this job market to go it all alone.

I always tell future students from the moment they walk through the door that we try to help as much as possible (we really do), but we cannot guarantee placement. I've always gotten a very positive response. They appreciate the honesty and it make my admissions job a lot easier. They know we try to help and being upfront and honest avoids them being angry later on. I make it VERY clear, we dont guarantee placement.
Diane,
The Commission expressly regards guarantees against the rules and laws of Florida.
I have heard some advertisements that give the perception that the school is guaranteeing employment upon graduation. Examples are some of the schools that offer Medical Billing and Coding and Medical Assistant.
Sandra,
This is the importance of providing services and not guaranteeing employment. All schools are required to provide placement services.
