Placement
There is often a misconstrued idea by many people and myself when I was going to college that it was certain the college would find you a job. It seemed like to me, that colleges don't seem to clarify this in thier marketing strategies and students are mislead. Is this the institutions way of trying to get higher enrollement?
MONTFORT,
You bring excellent points to the table. How much does the school get involved in placing that graduate? Schools should disclose how much they will help and how long they will help. Many schools take every effort placing that graduate even after the first placement. It's doing the right thing for your students.
Patty Aronoff
What, I think, is missing is the extent to which the school is involved in the job placement process. The school needs to clearly spell its level of engagement in assisting the graduates to secure employment.
What is it exactly the school wants to accomplish? Will it provide employment litterature? Skills about how to find employment? Help with strategies?
The role of the school should be clearly defined in order to provide the applicants with the right expectations.
marisely,
We cannot guarantee or promise jobs. We can, however, assist with the job search.
Patty Aronoff
I believe job placements shouldnt be promised to students and should be stated as an extra help from the institute.
Students who are mislead lead to problems.
Patricia ,
Career services should be assisting in whatever manner they can. It really starts on day one of school. There are no guarantees.
Patty Aronoff
The career services department can only do so much we also have to look at what the students background itself. We can tell them were there are job openings but we cant hire them ourselves.
Inga,
No guarantees! We provide assistance and work hard to help them find employment.
Patty Aronoff
This is exactly what we tell our students. We explain that assistance is offered if requested, but we do not guarantee employment. I think that if a prospective student is advised of this up front, then they will be more apt to trust the information that they receive about the school.
Norma ,
Exactly! There are no job guarantees but we can do so much to assist in the job prospecting process.
Patty Aronoff
Francesca,
Florida law requires that all schools provide placement assistance. For some, it may be a job board and resume writing assistance.
Patty Aronoff
I believe schools are good at explaining we cannot guarantee jobs but offer placement "assistance" in addition to career services to improve networking and professionalism.
many colleges do not help with placement after graduating. I think this is one of the most common misconceptions for degree seeking students, that after graduating they will have a job. Unless the school specifically tells you they have a placement program and get you prepared for what skill set those jobs require, as well as provide statistical evidence, nothing is guaranteed.
Harry,
This is a very important point. So many students want to hear that their efforts will gain them what they are seeking. But....there are no guarantees in any part of our lives.
Patty Aronoff
It is very important to tell the student right up front that there are no guarantees!!!!!
Asha,
The value of a college education is what the workforce demands. There are no guarantees.
