Setting the Expectation

If we know our product we will set a realistic expectation from the beginin and will be increase student satisfaction and that will be reflected in the retention.

Sara,

What a great idea! People love to get together over food and bringing the departments to learn more is exciting!

Vanessa,

I agree with you 100%. Instructors are a great resource for insight on the course, books, licensures, etc.

I try and sit in on classes every month to get a real student experience and become more knowledgeable on what my future students experiences will be like.

We've recently begun holding Admissions and Program Manager Luncheons. Getting to know the full time faculty and people who run the programs has been essential for the Admissions Dept, not just knowing what the student will learn. We are able to use real stories from our real department head about their background and work history and use them in our potential student interviews.

Diane,

All students should receive a copy of the catalog and be aware of its contents. Use it as a tool when explaining different aspects of the school.

Sandra,
Interesting! I was just in a conversation about this in that we need to be perceptive to other's emotions and body language.

Lacie,

Yes, but instructors also have to be educated on what they can and cannot say according to the laws.

Students need to obtain information in multiple ways - verbally, via the catalog, enrollment agreement - to help them retain. Even after the student is enrolled, their enrollment, academic, and financial team need to maintain communication to ensure expectations are clear and to normalize emotions (fear-factor when first starting).

While setting proper expectations for students keep in mind they are experiencing many different emotions (excitement, fear, confusion, etc) and those emotions can block the amount of information they can absorb. We need to ensure we go slow repeats things several times and establish a protocol for dissemination of information & resources so they are confident in their choices.

It is always a great idea to introduce students to different instructors because when they talk about the course work they can bring a new level excitement to the potential applicant.

Lindsey,
Instructors love to talk about their program. They are a great resource for enhancing your product knowledge.

Patty Aronoff

I have to agree! I have yet to meet with each instructor but am looking forward to it. I believe that it will provide me with a better understanding and give me the capability to provide the most beneficial information to the student.

susana,

Instructors are a wonderful resource. We should get to know them. They have so much to offer.

Patty Aronoff

Vanessa,
Instructors are wonderful resource. They will share their experiences and their classrooms as they are passionate about their work.

Patty Aronoff

Absolutely! I believe that instructos have a deeper insight into the nature of the program than the catalog itself. And also often times instructors may have personal field work experienc, their personal anecdotes can be a great source for real life conversations. These types of conversations help tremendously when building rapport with a prospect student.

Having the opportunity to meet with an instructor from each program was crucial for me. You will find that you learn allot more from them in a different sense than reading program information or reading the catalog.

Janet ,

Product knowledge is essential for admissions to provide quality feedback to the prospective student. This can be achieved with the help of the education staff.
