Learning Resource Center

Until taking this course, I was unaware that each institution was required to have their own library of resources by CIE. I was aware that each accrediting agency has requirements for a learning resource center. This was a great insight.

Rosanna,
Every school must have a library or learning resource center. We need to provide opportunities for students to obtain further learning in their careers. Depending upon the level of your programs, the library must contain certain requirements to be in compliance with rule.

I am so glad that was mentioned I didn't realize that was case. thank you

This was a suprise to me that it is a requirement to have a library as a resource center. But now that I look back, I do recall noticing this at each accredited school i have visited.

Rebecca,

It varies from institution to institution. It also depends upon the resources available for the level of program you were offering. The requirements for a diploma or certificate are very different than the requirements for doctoral degree.

I did not know there was a differece between a Learning Resource Center and a library until I started training at my institution. My understanding is that libraries have a lot more printed books and articles. On the other hand, Learning Resource Center has more text on-line and the physical room can be used for studying. However, both the library and LRC can serve as a studying area for students.

Debbie,
Yes, it is a requirement of the Commission to have a learning resource center. This will be reviewed during an on-site visit by a Commission staff member.
