Compliance is an ongoing never ending process, so there is never enough training on this topic as it concerns our employee's. Especially with all the parties that have an impact and/or are affected by compliance related topics. I have found talking points put together by our compliance specialist themselves and it has helped our admissions team have a feeling of confidence when approached with a question that might affect compliance related topics

Keri,
I agree! Training is a must.

Amanda,
Acronymns are a great way! Thank you for posting.

Veronica,
Very good advice!

As more concerns come to light my employer has become conscious of the fact that the Admissions staff needs training and that training should be ongoing. They have made every effort to ensure that the Admissions staff is knowledgable of how to remain compliant on various topics. That training is a weekly effort by the management staff. Institutions that invest in that training not only care about being compliant, but do it for their employees as well as their prospective and current students.

As admissions reps, there are certain topics we are not allowed to discuss. During my training we made an acronym so we wouldn't forget. However, policies are always changing. Training keeps us up-to-date and keeps us confident in our roles as admissions reps.

All admissions reps are required to take and pass this course. All DOAs give refresher training weekly. I don't ever think you can have too much compliance training.

Daniel,
I agree! But it takes self discipline to keep up with so much information. That's what makes our jobs never boring.

The learning never stops everywhere. Or better said, the learning should never stop everywhere. I mean in almosrt every career out there are so many compliance issues, and all the employees have to know everything to stay in compliance with all the rules. Especially in our business it is in everybody's interest tostay on top of everything.

William,
Being compliant all the time means you should not have any worries. Rules are there to protect all.

I agree. I believe this is especially true given the competitiveness of our industry. Non-public (private) colleges and institutions of higher learning are far more effective at helping students achieve their career and economic goals over that of public institutions, yet many non-public institutions have been targeted as a result of students choosing them over public institutions. The best defense is to ensure that we remain compliant at ALL times, even when you think you’re not being watched.

I agree ongoing training is vital to our industry. Compliance is always evolving and we all need to work hard to stay knowledgeable.

yes it was drilled into me during my trainning. but new things come up so new trainning is always a plus.

Kenneth,
Every admissions rep should practice everyday compliance not knowing who the prospective client is. Sometimes, companies bring in their own people to pose as a prospective student. However, if we are always doing the right thing we never have to worry.

I think many times companies make the mistake of assuming that admissions reps are saying all the right things in their interviews. Along with ensuring that admissions reps are collecting up-to-date information, it is certainly a good practice for the supervisors to sit in and observe their reps on a regular basis as a way of seeing it for themselves. As the old adage goes: "Inspect what you expect".

Krista,
Our sector is a very dynamic environment. The learning never stops.

Compliance is so very important. I don't think a school should ever stop compliance training. Refresher courses are always welcome!

Jeff,
When is enough, enough? Training has to be an ongoing process. We can never know it all.
