Tyler,
Good advice. Thank you for your posting.

Terry,
The only way for the student to know for sure is to speak with the institution. They must do their own research. Never assume!

We are careful to let students know that it is their responsibility to check on transfer credits to another institution from ours since we offer a very specialized program.

This is so helpful for me to read because our school is very different and these classes generally cannot transfer easily. This helps me portray this in a more generalized manner to the students, saying that it is always up to the receiving institution to determine what can and cannot transfer.

I always let students know that the acceptance of transfer credits is based on the policies of the receiving institution. Although I get this question frequently I use it as an opportunity to educate the student and empower them. I may say something like, "No school can garuntee the acceptance of their credits by another school. If anyone tells you that their credits will definitely transfer you should be wary and do your own research." They are usually appreciative that I didn't try to make promises our institution can't keep. I follow up by asking why they think they may want to transfer credits because ideally they should be focused on completing the program to graduation not taking a few courses and transferring elsewhere.

I get this question all the time and usually fall back on my own personal experience with transferring credits. Transfers are never guaranteed. I went from one major university to another and they didn't transfer everything even though the classes were the same.

ya it puts us in a difficult position because a lot of students want to know what credits transfer before they make any commitment, which is only logical. there is a semi-lengthly process in dealing with official transcripts etc.. and a lot of the time the student needs to fill out the application and pay the registration fee in order to even have us look at his/her officials.

We receive this question constantly, due to the fact that our program is a lockstep program transfer of credit is not accepted. I do agree that the student has to fully investigate this policy with the institution.

Julio,
It is up to the receiving institution to determine if they will accept the credits. It is the responsibility of the student to investigate. Credits do not automatically transfer.
