admissions meetings
Admissions meetings tend to concentrate on how to be an 'effective" admissions rep. Main ideals are: dealing with student objections, institution tours, presenting information about your institution.
Maritza,
It takes the whole school to produce a graduate. No matter what role a staff member has at the school, we all make a difference.
Patty Aronoff
Admissions meetings should also serve as a source for updated training. Inviting departmental heads to give and update admissions departments on any issues wether academic or disciplinary, observations of student behavior, news of industry or accomplishments of students is part of the growth of an institution that compiles student life and it's the core of retention practices.
Laura,
Agreed! ...and ask questions!
Terri,
Having a record of your meetings, an agenda, sign in sheets provide you a very professional andinformative meeting.
LaVarne,
Admissions is generally the first point of contact and should be integral in the student experience even after classes start. They are a wonderful opportunity to develop leads.
Norma,
Meetings are a reaffirmation of knowledge as well as an opportunity to explore.
I agree and want to add to la varne, this is so true especially when you are new to the team you want to make sure you hear it from the horses mouth to ensure there are no misunderstandings and clarity so we give correct and accurate information to the students, how can you be efective and efficient if you are not prepared. Meetings are key as well as trainings.
It is not only that everyone needs to be on the same page, but we need to know and understand what the trends are and how we tie into them. It's an opportunity to share with each other and to ensure that we remain within compliance. The meetings can also serve a a training ground to ensure everyone's success in working with the students and enhancing the instiution's image. We often are the first main contact that students have with the institution.
In our meetings we have a sign-in, keep minutes, have an agenda, address training, hot topics, best practices, etc. The meetings are co-lead by managers and reps addressing obstacles and "ah ha" moments.
Exactly! Meetings can be very beneficial, but the participants must share their experiences with one another.
Darlene,
We can all be change agents. Try asking questions to get the conversation going.
Sometimes this is true. Most of the admissions meetings that take place tend to be about the numbers, unfortunately.
Beverly,
Sharing experiences is a geat way to learn. You can talk and discover.
The admission meeting is a meeting for everyone to share what they have done during the day. This helps us all to be better reps!
Patricia,
Meetings are on only as good as the participation.
Diondre,
It is very important that everyone is on the same page and compliant.
Gustavo,
Good advice! There needs to be the proper blend for effectiveness.
I think everyone should have something to share with the group at an admission meeting...their last experience with the student, what really worked or did not work and why, and let everyone learn from their experience.
I believe that they should be a combination.
